What a journey this has been for all of us at Bashers.
Attending the Chicago Barefoot Expo 2026, hosted by Anya’s Reviews, was far more than just another event on the calendar. It marked a major milestone for our brand and a moment we’ll never forget.
From the moment we arrived in Chicago, the energy was electric. Being surrounded by passionate creators, barefoot footwear enthusiasts, designers, makers, and brands from around the world reminded us exactly why Bashers was started in the first place — to create footwear with purpose, craftsmanship, and authenticity at its core.
The expo created an incredible environment centered around innovation, community, and a shared passion for better footwear. For Bashers, it was an opportunity to showcase who we are on an international stage, connect with people who genuinely understand the barefoot movement, and introduce our South African-made footwear to a completely new audience.
One of the most valuable parts of the experience was the conversations. People didn’t just walk past our stand — they stopped, asked questions, felt the leather, looked at the construction, and wanted to understand the story behind Bashers. We spoke about our stitchdown manufacturing process, our focus on anatomically correct barefoot design, the materials we use, and the philosophy behind every pair we make.
That level of genuine interest meant everything to us.

The event wasn’t only about sales. While we were grateful to make sales and connect with new customers, the real value came from the relationships built and the awareness created around the brand. Every interaction reminded us that people are looking for products with authenticity, quality, and story — and that there is space for South African craftsmanship on the global stage.
Being surrounded by so many respected names in the barefoot footwear industry was both humbling and inspiring. The Chicago Barefoot Expo showed us how powerful this community really is. It brought together people who care deeply about movement, design, functionality, and creating products that genuinely improve the way people experience footwear.
Chicago itself added to the experience. The city was fast-paced, creative, and full of energy. Between long expo days, networking sessions, and seeing Bashers represented alongside global brands, the entire trip felt surreal.
Most importantly, this experience reminded us that we are only getting started.
We want to thank Anya’s Reviews for hosting such an incredible event and creating a platform that brings together the global barefoot footwear community. We also want to thank every person who visited our stand, supported the brand, shared kind words, or simply took the time to learn more about what we do.
A special thank you as well to Chris and Eric from Sons of Sever for the incredible content they created for Bashers across YouTube and Instagram, helping share our story with a wider audience. Thank you to Ian from Stretch2go for the podcast conversation, the support on Instagram, and for believing in what we are building.
We also want to thank Jessica from Reality Fulfilment, as well for believing in Bashers and stocking our products on their platform www.pedterra.com in the United States. Support like this means the world to a growing South African brand trying to make its mark internationally.

And to our customers, friends, family, and supporters back home in South Africa — thank you. None of this would be possible without you.
The Chicago Barefoot Expo 2026 was a massive step forward for Bashers, and we’re excited for everything that comes next.
